In my internet search, I came across a young woman’s blog who mentions Mike Doughty and also Sufjan Stevens as being Christian indie rockers, who, in her words, “ick me out a little bit.”

While I understand her argument that Mike Doughty’s lyrics may not be very imaginative, and I also understand her lack of ability to grasp the concept of an all-loving God who allows terrible things to happen in the world, I really reach out to this girl, because the whole idea is that there are just things that you won’t understand, ever. That’s what being a human being is about. And faith is faith.

From her blog: “so, coming back to my original point that christian indie rockers ick me out: i think it’s because i expect these people to have some sort of insight that i don’t have. i want them to explain something to me, or make me see something in a way i haven’t thought of before.”

Darling, you can only do that for yourself. Just keep trying. I’m not going to quote the Bible or leave any trite sayings for the end. Just keep trying.
